Lab knowledge

Distinguish THC, THCA and potential total THC.

Separate measured and calculated values with a transparent formula, unit check and worked calculation.

Clarify the labels first

A value labelled THC and a total-THC result are not interchangeable without checking the report definition. Ask which compounds are measured, whether acidic and neutral forms are listed separately and which reporting basis applies. A percentage without this context is difficult to compare.

A calculation convention

NIST IR 8519 uses potential total THC = Δ9-THC + 0.877 × THCA. Use inputs with identical units and reporting basis. This calculation is not a Swiss legal classification or a prediction of an individual effect.

Use the result responsibly

The calculator below demonstrates arithmetic only. It supplies no missing test and accounts for neither measurement uncertainty nor sampling representativeness. If the report already includes a calculated total, do not add THCA again. Ask the laboratory and, where necessary, the relevant authority to clarify borderline or inconsistent results.

Worked calculation: potential total THC

Δ9-THC + 0.877 × THCA

Calculated result: 0.5508 %

Learning aid only: values must use the same units and reporting basis. Not a laboratory finding, threshold decision or statement of lawful marketability.
